Diplopterys Cabrerana, called Chaliponga by natives, is a particularly exotic leaf used in the traditional preparations of Ayahuasca. The brew generally consists of Psychotria Viridis leaves with Caapi Vine, the addition of Chaliponga is less common but is said to greatly change the quality and intensity of the brew. This brew of jungle herbs called ayahuasca, has been used for thousands of years as medicine and for spirit insight. Ayahuasca is revered as being one of the most transformative and profound experiences accessible to human consciousness. And when used in shamanic ritual, it is said to have physical healing properties which go beyond most anything on this earth.
A very rich history and spirituality surrounds Ayahuasca practice. Even today there are active religions acknowledged by the Brazilian government centered around ayahuasca as a sacrament.
