Fo-Ti Root/Polygonum Multiflorum
Fo-Ti is a plant native to Asia. The root is considered a rejuvenatory ginseng. There are many interesting stories regarding the restorative qualities of Fo-Ti root. Ching Yuen Li, a master herbalist and baguashong player, was said to have lived to the age of 256 years! As the stories traditionally go, in the last 100 years of his life, he consumed a tincture of several herbs, most prominently mentioned was Fo-Ti. The tincture in this story gave him an unending vigor of youth, and an sexual prowess, boasting to have had 24 wives!
There is another story about a famous gray haired General named He that was convicted of war crimes and punished by being left to waste away in a deep hole dug into the earth. After having left He alone for an entire year his jailers returned to remove his remains. They were surprised, however, to find that not only had He survived the year in a hole, but He even seemed to be even healthier than before, with his previous black hair color completely restored. When questioned about how he could possibly have survived for so long, He explained that the only food he had to consume were the roots hanging out of the dirt of his enclosure. Those roots happened to be the roots of Fo-Ti.
Of course we can’t speak of the validity of these stories, but we can speak of the years of successful use of Fo-Ti at maintaining a healthy body. While Fo-Ti is still used by many to keep a healthy hair color, and prolong their life. Fo-Ti is great at cleansing the blood and maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system, as well as increasing the liver and kidney function helping the body to stay clean internally. Fo-Ti is also high in zinc making it a particularly useful tonic for those suffering from a deficiency of zinc. Traditional Used and Dosage:
Raw: Fo-Ti root can be eaten raw. About 9 to 15 grams is an appropriate amount.
Tea or Tonic: A tea can be made by steeping about 9 to 15 grams of root in an 8oz cup of hot water. Consumed once daily.
Precautions and Possible Side Effects:
Do not use Fo-Ti Root if pregnant or breastfeeding.
In doses over 15 grams numbness of arms and legs can occur. Do not use more than 15 grams of Fo-Ti root.
Fo-Ti root may cause diarrhea and loos stool in large doses.

This is my first experience working with Fo-Ti and so far, I love it. About one tablespoon to 8 ounces water made for a nice mellow tea. Very aromatic, fresh, quality stuff indeed.
